Coat of Arms for the Heraldic Inn, Austria
Designed to embody the chivalric heritage and modern hospitality of an Austrian inn.
Overview
My task was to create a unique coat of arms for an Austrian inn known for its chivalric traditions. Paying homage to history while emphasizing hospitality and modernity, this heraldic masterpiece merges traditional artistry with modern branding requirements.
Description of the Coat of Arms
Shield
The shield is divided into four quadrants, with a small shield in the center. Each component represents key values and traditions:
- Crossed Axes: Positioned in the middle of a light blue and red field, symbolizing strength and readiness.
- Wild Boar: Placed on a red background, representing courage and steadfastness.
- Stag: Set on a light blue field, symbolizing wisdom and morality.
- Three Lilies: Positioned on a light blue field, symbolizing royalty and purity, emphasizing Christian principles.
- Grapes: Placed on a red background, representing comfort and abundance.
Crown
A crown rests atop the shield, symbolizing royal majesty and prestige, while also reflecting the inn’s knightly heritage.
Mantling
The red and light blue mantlings enhance the coat of arms’ heraldic colors and visual coherence.
Supporters
Knights in full armor stand astride adorned horses behind the shield. They hold swords and banners with golden lions, adding a sense of dignity and strength to the design.
Motto
The upper scroll features the motto: “EX ITINERE AD QUIETEM” (From Journey to Rest), while the lower scroll displays: “FIDELITAS ET HOSPITALITAS” (Faithfulness and Hospitality). Together, they express the inn’s mission and values.
Historical Significance
The coat of arms, commissioned by an Austrian inn, connects its present identity with the historical importance of chivalry. Every heraldic component was carefully chosen to symbolize the inn’s values and principles.
Symbolism and Relevance
Emblems
Beyond reflecting tradition, the components of this coat of arms highlight the inn’s commitment to hospitality and excellence, intertwined with its deep-rooted heritage.
Relevance
This coat of arms is more than a symbol. It serves as a representation of the inn’s heritage and pride, upholding its chivalric and hospitable reputation.
Conclusion
As a heraldic artist, I am proud to present a coat of arms that transcends mere symbolism. It captures both beauty and meaning for the Austrian inn, embodying the spirit of knightly tradition and the needs of modern hospitality.

You can send me an email using the contact form there, describing what coat of arms would you like me to design for you. Also, you can click on the “Prices” link in the same menu to read more about symbolic elements used in heraldry. Every element in the coat of arms should have its meaning. For example “a spade” a tool of agriculture; a symbol of honest labour. “Jasmine”: signifies hope, joy and a demonstration of attachment. Please note, that there is no such thing as a ‘coat of arms for a surname. Many people of the same surname will often be entitled to completely different coats of arms. A family crest belongs to individuals.
